Educational Initiative and Capacity Building
Tumaini Hand Missions runs a wide variety of educational programs and capacity building initiatives in Kenya for vulnerable children, poor women /girls from poverty stricken areas of Eldoret, and rural areas in need of development. Currently, Tumaini Hand Missions in Kenya supports and runs a primary school, Teen Training Camp and various educational support programs such as vocational training programs for vulnerable women and girls.
We have refurbished classrooms, toilets, built-in water tanks, and wells. We have teaching resources such as musical instruments, sports supplies, books, art & design and fine crafts supplies. We also have volunteer teachers to cover extra-curricular classes.
Children supported by Tumaini Hand Missions must meet the criteria of our Educational Support Policy. It’s our purpose to support the growth and development of the women and children.
We try to get the best education for every single child. For this reason, we built our own temporary school within our center. Here, we can educate our own children (105 in total) with children from the neighborhood. The center grows every year. Currently, we have baby/infant care and nursery, and class for grade levels 1-5.
Paying school fees for the children in near private schools has been a challenge since we are a small center, struggling to grow. That is why we started the idea of a school within our center. The children in our own school center are in need of monthly monetary donations to cover some daring needs like food, sanitary supplies, running water, electricity as well as many additional needs. Therefore, we need your support! If you wish to support one of the children, we would be extremely grateful!
Personal Development Programs
Tumaini Hand Missions believes in taking a holistic approach to the development of women and children. We run a series of personal development programs aimed at building the confidence of children and empowering them to forge their own paths in life. These programs include Youth Rehabilitation Camps and Children Teen Camps.
Social Welfare Programs
Tumaini Hand Missions understands that development isn’t a Band-Aid you can simply place over the problems of a country. Instead, development should be holistically approached to solve these problems. This means working with the community as a whole on long-term sustainable projects. Our social welfare programs have all been designed with this belief in mind.
These social welfare programs target a variety of issues in our communities, from early childhood development to infrastructural support. Each program has been developed with the guidance and support of local authorities and committees.
Whenever possible, we strive to create employment to local craftsmen and laborers in the construction and implementation of these initiatives.
Our social welfare programs have included:
- Mainline Slum Education and Early Childhood Development School in Uasin Gishu County for young children to play and grow as they prepare to enter primary school
- A feeding program to children and poor families, women and children
Tumaini Hand Mission in collaboration with other well-wishers has supported the construction of schools, housing, and health facilities in villages in the area.

Our Kenya Medical Camp is designed for medical students looking to gain international experience before they graduate. During this excursion, medical students help Tumaini Hand Missions to run a free medical camp for children and poor communities under the supervision of a fully qualified medical professional.
For those individuals or groups looking for a more specialized experience, Tumaini Hand Missions has individual volunteering programs in Kenya, as well as special expeditions and fundraising opportunities. We constantly need volunteers on the ground to help us collect data, build capacity, and run our NGO more efficiently and transparently.
